Westwood Lodge

Westwood Lodge, a red brick house formerly part of the Spencer Estate, has been extended and refurbished to provide a 20 bedroom mental health care home.

The new interventions are clearly articulated and are read as separate layers and elements against the red brick. Externally the new elements continue the theme of white render and zinc established in phase one of the project and the adjacent building, Woodside Lodge.

The space formed between the two buildings also creates a protected south-facing courtyard for seating outdoors.

The site is defined by the 25m high Wellingtonia and other mature trees.

A key aspiration has been to provide views to these specimen trees.
